Getting into the holiday spirit in Junior Art Club

"Mathematics may not teach us to add love or subtract hate, but it gives us hope that every problem has a solution." (Anonymous)

Thank you to all of the families who joined us for some math fun last night during our Family Math Night. We were happy to see more than fifty families playing games, talking about math, eating popcorn and generally having fun.

If you were unable to attend, but you'd still like to have a copy of the games that were played, you can find the handout for the games here.

Congratulations to all of our prize winners! We would like to thank the Ardrossan Elementary Support Association for partnering with the school to provide the prizes for this event. We would also like to share our gratitude with the Hot Lunch parents who popped the delicious popcorn we devoured throughout the evening.

We hope that you have a great weekend and that you find some time to play some games together!

Have Your Say About Fees - Come to our January School Council Meeting

Our next school council meeting will be taking place on January14, 202 at 9:30 a.m. During that time, we'll be sharing information about our current fee structure, posing specific questions about priorities, and asking you to provide your feedback as we plan for the 2020-2021 school year. While many of these activities and services enhance students' educational experience, we want to ensure thes efees aren't cost prohibitive for families. Specifically, we will be asking for input on the following:

  • Noon hour supervision
  • Field trips and associated fees
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Non-curricular travel (for example, ski trips)
  • Non-curricular goods and services (for example, yearbooks)

We understand not all families will be available to attend the meeting but it's still important we get as much input from the school community as possible. Following the meeting, materials will be shared on our website: for your reivew, and an email address provided so you can submit a written response.

School administration will use feedback provided to help determine fees for 2020-21, which will then be shared at a later school council meeting, posted to our website and shared via link through email.

We look forward to seeing you in January!

French Immersion - What Happens After Grade 6

You've done your research and made the choice to put your child into French Immersion. You are set up until Grade 6 but then what? What does junior high look like? What about high school? What about post-secondary?

Learn all about your child's future in French Immersion at the Elk Island Public Schools Secondary French Immersion Information Evening on Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. at Sherwood Heights Junior High School.

There will be presentations from Sherwood Heights, Ardrossan Junior Senior High School as well as from Campus Saint-Jean. We look forward to seeing you there!

Giving Tree - Citizenship in Action

Mahatma Ghandi once said, "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." Please help us demonstrate compassion for those less fortunate through our annual Giving Tree event beginning this month. Each grade collects and donates key items during the weeks leading up to the holidays to support Strathcona families who might need a little extra help. The items being collected include:

  • ECS - Dec. 2 bring socks
  • Grade 1 - Dec. 3 bring mittens
  • Grade 2 - Dec. 4 bring mittens and gloves
  • Grade 3 - Dec. 5 bring hats
  • Grade 4 - Dec.6 bring non-perishable food items
  • Grade 5 & 6 - Dec. 9 & 10 bring personal care items

These items will be used to decorate the Giving Tree. The donations will be collected by the Strathcona Christmas Bureau on Friday, December 13. Thank you in advance for your support of those in our community who are less fortunate!

Family Dance - Feeling Super on December 6

Dress in your best superhero inspired outfits and join us for our Superhero themed family dance on Friday, December 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $10 per family.

Kick-off your shoes at the door and dance in your best superhero socks! There will be a concession, 25 cent song requests and much fun to be had. All proceeds will go to our new playground fund.

We hope to see you there!

Looking for Information? Check out our New Parent Information Board!

Thank you to the Ardrossan Elementary Parent Support Association (AEPSA) for purchasing a beautiful new parent information bulletin board for our school! You can find this beautiful new bulletin board beside the door leading into the office after you enter the main doors to our building.

We invite you to check it out when you're waiting for a child as we will post relevant information for parents and families on this board regularly!
